will library’s and physical books ever become obsolete?
i just saw a sad news story about librarys closing around the uk because of government spending cuts.
nothing for me could ever replace the pleasure of possessing and reading a physical book, whether it be about a vast wide range of subjects , fiction and non fiction.
books are truly wonderful , whether one wants to purchase one from ebay or amazon or anywhere else, ie ; – like a book finders service .
i dont really take to the idea of all these electronic alternatives like the kindle etc , at all .
i want to know, will books and librarys and the ability to get hold of physical books whether it be by amazon , ebay or a book finder – are these things under a grave threat of extinction ?
how very sad indeed…
are library’s, books and the ability to access them all under the threat of extinction ?
id appreciate all answers
thanks
No probably not. However many “books” might take a different form like discs. Books are still very much alive. The invention of the computer has made the fiction market GROW! There are more books in the world than ever before. Many of them just don’t exist in paper form. This is becoming more common, especially since people are becoming more concious of the environment. Trees make paper. Paper makes books. This is killing our planet!
So printed books may become less common in the years to come but the world of fiction will probably continue to grow. People will also need a place where they can access this information. More and more libraries have computers these days. Not everyone can afford a computer so there will probably always be a public place where people can read information. The library of the future just might have more electronic “books” than paper ones.
Fortunately, many of us feel exactly the way you do! Printed books can be thrown in a purse, left in your car and taken anywhere. A kindle, laptop or ipad is fragile and after a long time any screen can be hard on a person’s eyes. They are also expensive and can be stolen or ruined. I think it will be a LONG time before paper books become a thing of the past. They might become less common but I don’t think they will go extinct in our lifetime. I hope this answers your question!

Titanic [VHS] $1.50 When the theatrical release of James Cameron’s Titanic was delayed from July to December of 1997, media pundits speculated that Cameron’s $200 million disaster epic would cause the director’s downfall, signal the end of the blockbuster era, and sink Paramount Studios as quickly as the ill-fated luxury liner had sunk on that fateful night of April 14, 1912. Some studio executives were confident, ot… |
